Alive and well in Madrid! Took a fabulous nap. Haven't been pickpocketed so far, so that's good :) Metro/luggage hauling wasn't pleasant, but was totally do-able and much less awful than I was expecting. Found the hostel, and the only glitch so far is that I couldn't connect to their WiFi. Good news is they have free internet upstairs on a computer, so no problem there! The room is basic but clean and comfortable. My power converter (euro to US plugs) works, so that's good news also.
Purchases thus far: metro ticket, bottle of water, clearance book at a bookstore I wandered into today (Spanish edition of a book published in the 70s about the influence of affluence on American society or something like that. Seemed like it could be a fun way to pick up some good vocab.)
On may way out to wander now and have a late lunch/early dinner since I slept right through normal lunch hours....
Not much else to report. I doubt I'll continue using this blog, but I just sent this off to my parents as an e-mail, and it seemed like an adequate first post on the off chance that I do decide to become a blogger.
